ROCK HILL — An intoxicated Catawba woman jumped out the window of her friends car after she claims five men tried to rob her early Tuesday, according to police.
She then falsely identified that same friend as one of the men who held her at gunpoint.
The woman, 45, told police at about 3 a.m. that she was at Bobs Food Mart on East Main Street when five men approached her while she sat in a friends car, according to a Rock Hill police report. One of them held out a gun and demanded money.
She told police she jumped through the opposite window and landed on the ground, the report states, as the suspects ran behind the nearby Rite Aid. The woman said she tried to follow them. Her friend, a 27-year-old Rock Hill man, also tried to follow them in his Chevrolet Tahoe.
As police searched the area, they found the mans wallet and drivers license, the report states. The woman then said her friend was the suspect.
Police determined that the woman had confused the suspects with her friend, the report states.
The friend told police that four to five men approached his Tahoe and demanded money. He handed the suspects his wallet, the report states, and they ran, hopping into a champagne Nissan Maxima.
He then followed them until he lost sight of them near Rite Aid, the report states. He told police he left the woman since she jumped out of the window and ran.
Police spoke with two other people in the car, who corroborated the mans story. Police twice tried to have the drunk woman fill out a statement, but she was unable to do so.
