FORT MILL — Avisail Garcia drove home two of Charlotte’s four runs, Tony Pena Jr. tossed five scoreless innings, and the Charlotte Knights beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-0 on Wednesday in Game 3 of their four-game series. Wednesday’s shutout win was the sixth of the season for the Knights.
Traded to the White Sox organization as part of the Jake Peavy deal, Garcia is hitting .417 (10-for-24) with one home run and nine RBIs in seven games with the Knights. In the fifth inning, Garcia ripped a two-run single to give Charlotte a 3-0 lead. With runners in scoring position this season in Class AAA, Garcia is hitting .556 (20-for-36).
Garcia, who was ranked as the second-best prospect in the Tigers system by Baseball America, went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Charlotte shortstop Marcus Semien scored one of the runs in the fifth inning to add to his minor league-leading 96. Semien went 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and two walks.
The teams will conclude their series at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. RHP Erik Johnson (2-0, 1.85) will get the start for the Knights, while the IronPigs will send RHP Tyler Cloyd (4-8, 5.42) to the hill.
