Race – it is something we Americans obviously identify with. Either you are black, white, “Mexican,” a terrorist, or in all-American terms “Chinese.” The term Chinese is used for anyone who has black hair, fair skin and an Asian appearance, no matter if you are Hawaiian, Vietnamese, Japanese, or Korean.
The term “Mexican” is used to describe any person who speaks Spanish, Portuguese or anything that may sound similar. The term terrorist is reserved for people of Middle Eastern descent – any Middle Eastern descent, regardless of religion.
We are doing this to ourselves. There is no reason that deep-rooted racism should not have died out. Those deep-rooted racists should be dead by now, that is my point.
When raising children, we teach them right and wrong, but we should never teach them black, white, brown or a different shade of brown. They learn from you. I just want for people to stop teaching racism. It is racist no matter what side to teach a child to alter his or her perception based on someone’s outer appearance.
Racism still exists, but only because we keep it alive. Aside from physical features and anthropological differences, we Americans all have the same opportunity. But it starts from the day we answer a child’s question: “Why is she black/white/brown/different?”
Tell them something that will change their future. If enough people stop placing categories on their fellow people, this will stop and we could get past it. This is for every black, white, Asian, Middle Eastern person who is an American. If you can't change yourself, try to make your child's future brighter.
