The inaugural “Rock the Hill – Rock the Globe” event Saturday marked the first time Winthrop’s incoming class gathered together to celebrate becoming an Eagle.

Men’s Basketball Coach Pat Kelsey was the emcee as students were introduced to Winthrop’s athletes and learned chants for athletic events.

The event is a partnership between University College programs, particularly the Global Learning Initiative and the first-year student class (ACAD 101), and Winthrop Athletics.

“We eagerly anticipate the arrival of our new students,” said Leah Kendall, Winthrop’s director of ACAD, “Rock the Hill – Rock the Globe” introduces our incoming class to the Global Learning Initiative, their academic experience with ACAD, and the spirit and pride associated with being Winthrop Eagles. “

President Jayne Marie Comstock concluded the hour-long event with a message to students.

Winthrop’s new students moved in to their residence halls on Friday. The annual Convocation ceremony to open the school year will be held Monday and classes begin Tuesday.
