A double-threat, double-bill comes together Friday as two up and comers – StellaRising along with Jake Haldenwang – combine forces at The Double Door Inn in Charlotte.
Fusing rock pop and alternative with a flash of funk punch StellaRising takes aim at expanding their musical presence around the area. Upbeat and confident, this Charlotte-based band is fronted by lead singer Kristi Ormand who aimed for a musical career from an early age. Her influences are divided among classic bands and powerhouses acts flaunting female fronts.
The quartet, which also includes Tony Oliver-Paull, guitar/vocals, Marty Connell, keyboards and Mike Gracie, drums/percussion, specializes in a mix of original tunes and lively covers.
Joining this jam will be guitarist/singer/songwriter Haldenwang along with his band, Halden Vang. In many ways, Haldenwang just makes this all look easy. Whether an old soul or a young upstart, his rollout as a breakout blues guitarist at the tender age of 11 was remarkable.
Since that startling launch, Haldenwang has stacked up awards, showcases, guest spots and more that continue to enhance his career with credibility and charisma. Foundational influences of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, and Duane Allman, fortified by contemporary classics Foo Fighters, Black Keys, Jack White, and Kings of Leon, mixed up the groove pushing Haldenwang along a wider highway to notoriety.
Of course, a heady list of guest spots also have kept him hopping and bopping. This star-studded list includes Warren Haynes, Greg Allman, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Kevin Kinney/Drivin N’ Cryin, Steve Miller, Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, and so many more.
Now at the ripe old age of 18, Haldenwang is a seasoned veteran with a startling list of accomplishments to his credit plus an amazing rockin’ future ahead.
