ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill woman told police that she had to arm herself with bleach when her brother attacked her, leaving her with a swollen wrist and bruises on her face and shoulders on Thursday.
At about 1:30 a.m., police were went to the Executive Inn on North Anderson Road after a 33-year-old woman said her brother, Markey Antonio Shannon, assaulted her, according to a Rock Hill police report.
She told police her brother banged on the door to her room and threatened to harm her. He also refused to leave when she asked and shouted profanities at her when she would not open the door.
When police arrived, they found Shannon, 29, in front of the room, the report states. The officers were familiar with Shannon, whom police called violent, the report states. An officer deployed his Taser and told Shannon to put his hands against the wall.
Shannon ignored police commands and began running down the corridor, the report states. The officer gave chase, but Shannon darted through several corridors and managed to evade the officer.
Less than 30 minutes later, the sister called police again to report that Shannon had returned and started banging on the door so hard she feared the lock would break, the report states. The woman said she armed herself with a bottle of bleach and opened the door to try to convince him to leave.
That’s when Shannon hit her in the head, shoulders, chest, abdomen and arms several times, the report states. The woman told police she threw the bottle of bleach at him in self-defense, splashing the liquid on his legs. Her brother then fled.
Witnesses in nearby rooms corroborated the woman’s story, according to the report.
Officers searched the area and came across Shannon, who cursed at police and began fighting with them until officers overpowered him and put him in handcuffs, the report states.
Police charged Shannon with second-degree assault and battery, second-degree harassment, resisting police and failure to identify.
