A man died following a one-car crash in Rock Hill Wednesday night.

A man died following a one-car crash in Rock Hill on Wednesday night, police report.

At about 6:30 p.m., Michael Thornwell, 62, of Rock Hill was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable west on Constitution Boulevard. The car crossed the center line and the eastbound lanes, left the road and hit a tree.

The driver and a 9-year-old passenger were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where the driver was pronounced dead. Both had been wearing seatbelts.

The accident is still under investigation. York County coroner Sabrina Gast said the medical examiner at Carolinas Medical Center would determine the cause of death.
