NEWPORT — A Rock Hill man died Sunday night from injuries suffered in a crash two weeks ago, according to the Highway Patrol.
Walter Covington, 74, had stopped for a red light near the intersection of S.C. 274 and S.C. 161 on Aug. 19 when his GMC pickup was rear-ended by another truck.
The driver of the second truck, Zachery Brakefield, 22, of Rock Hill, was not injured.
According to the Highway Patrol, Brakefield was driving too fast when his truck collided with Covingtons pickup.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which occurred about three miles west of Rock Hill.
The Highway Patrol said Covington died around 5 p.m. Sunday.
Brakefield was cited for driving too fast for conditions, and the accident is still under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.
