FORT MILL — A Fort Mill man was sentenced Monday in Columbia for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Officials said Todd Kempton, 43, received five months in prison, five months of house arrest and a lifetime of supervised release.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office lists Kempton as an "adult offender" with an address on Arrowlake Court in Fort Mill. It says he was convicted in 1992 in New Jersey for criminal sexual conduct with a 12-year-old minor. Kempton was about 23 at the time of the original conviction.
Kempton was investigated and brought to trial as a part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide program designed to combat exploitation of children.
