FORT MILL — A Fort Mill man involved in a police standoff Tuesday afternoon in Fort Mill has been taken into custody, officials say.
A SWAT team and other officers were called in response to a domestic violence situation in the home on First Street Tuesday afternoon, York County Sheriff's Office spokesman Trent Faris.
The man in the house refused to leave and was believed to be armed, Faris said.
Fort Mill School District spokeswoman Kelly McKinney said all Fort Mill schools were dismissed as normal, but district transportation officials didn't allow buses to transport children to the area near the standoff. Parents were being told they could pick their children up at their school or have them transported home once law enforcement has cleared the scene.
The man was not arrested and no charges were filed. He was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.
