CHESTER — The Chester Cyclones scored 13 unanswered points in the second half to break open a close game at intermission and defeat the Central Pageland Eagles 27-13 in nonregion action Friday night.
Tommy Sanders rushed for 106 yards on nine carries and completed nine of 20 passes for 135 yards to spearhead the Cyclones attack. Broderick Roscoe added 77 yards on the ground on 15 carries.
Sanders opened the scoring with a 21-yard run in the first quarter to give Chester a 7-0 lead. C. J. Chisholm upped the count to 14-0 later in the period when he picked off a Sam Caldwell pass and raced 38 yards for a touchdown.
The Eagles Mitch Meadows closed the first half with a 2-yard run and the Cyclones headed for intermission with a 14-7 cushion. Meadows finished the game with 131 yards rushing on 20 carries. Tyvonne Blakeney added 87 yards rushing on 15 attempts.
Sanders hooked up with Quan Caldwell on a 25-yard pass play in the third period, and Chester was in front 21-7 after Jake Wright kicked his third extra point of the game. Early in the fourth period Sanders capped the Chester scoring with a 69-yard gallop and the Cyclones were in front 27-7 with 9:56 left to play in the game.
Drae Linton Wright pulled Central Pageland to within 27-13 when he hit Tyvonne Blakeney with an 11-yard pass.
The win improved the Cylones to 2-3. The loss dropped the Eagles to 2-2 on the year.
