York police investigate repainted donation boxes

— The police are looking into potentially stolen donation boxes located in several counties in the state, according to a York Police report.

Gena Carruthers, an employee of Planet Aid, filed a report to police last week after she noticed some of the non-profit organization’s boxes appeared to have been painted over with spray paint. Planet Aid collects clothes using public donation boxes.

Carruthers said she found at least two boxes that had been spray painted over that are labeled as belonging to another non-profit organization with a phone number that directs to a former Planet Aid employee. She estimated the value of one box at $800.

Officers were unable to get through to anyone when they called the number listed on the repainted boxes. Reports have also been filed with police departments in the other areas.
