Indian Land Warriors unable to slow down Panthers

Herald correspondentSeptember 28, 2013

— The Indian Land football team scored on its first three possessions but gave up 21 unanswered points to visiting McBee before eventually falling 28-21 Friday night.

The Warriors had three separate possessions to tie the game after the Panthers scored the go-ahead touchdown with just seconds remaining in the third quarter. The 5-yard run came three plays after the two teams traded turnovers on consecutive plays with the score tied at 21.

Each Warrior possession in the final stanza ended up a little bit worse than the possession before. Indian Land drove 20 yards into McBee territory but stalled and failed on a forth and long.

The Warriors had one last try to score with 3:01 left and once again in excellent field position. Indian Land took over at the Panther 34 but threw four consecutive incomplete passes. McBee took over and ran out the remaining clock.

Indian Land forced a Panthers fumble on McBee’s second play from scrimmage. The Warriors started its first drive of the game on the McBee 24 but had to settle with a 37-yard field goal by Shane Rodgers. The field goal may have been good for 50.

With McBee trailing 13-0 at the end of the first, Jordan Flair took over at quarterback and led the Panthers on four touchdown drives. Flair ended the game with 168 yards of total offense.

Indian Land quarterback George Morris started off the game by hitting four of his first six passes but struggled late with a couple of interceptions. He still threw for 101 yards for the Blue Eagles.
