— A Rock Hill man was charged with cruelty to children after police say he ripped his 1-year-old son from his wife’s arms after grabbing her by the neck and swinging her around a room last week.

Police were sent to a home on Alberta Court, off Flint Hill Street, at about 6 p.m. Thursday when a woman, 21, reported that she and her husband, Trenton Berry, got into an argument, according to a Rock Hill police report.

The argument turned physical when Berry, 22, grabbed the woman by the neck and began swinging her around the room, the report states. He threw her into several walls towards the front of the house while she held onto their son, 1.

Berry grabbed the boy from his wife’s arms, leaving the boy with a cut on his right ankle, before placing him in a crib, the report states. He then resumed assaulting his wife, grabbing her arms while she was in the bathroom and throwing her against the wall.

The woman was left suffering with bruises on her neck and arm pits, the report states. By the time police arrived, Berry had already left the house, learning that he might have received a ride to his mother’s home in Clover.

Police arrested him Saturday, charging him with criminal domestic violence and cruelty to children. He was released from jail Sunday on a $3,000 bond.
