The 2013 S.C. State Fair opens Wednesday and continues through Oct. 20 in Columbia. Here are a few key reminders about the 144th annual fair.
Tuesday is the last day to buy advance discount admission and ride tickets. Buy admission tickets at www.scstatefair.org or at any Bi-Lo store; discount ride tickets available only at Bi-Lo. Admission (ages 6-54) is $7 in advance, $10 once the fair opens. Ride vouchers are $23 in advance, $28 once the fair opens. The ride vouchers can be exchanged any weekday for a pay-one-price wristband or any day for 28 ride coupons. Kiddie rides require two or three tickets; adult rides, three or four.
Admission for seniors 55 and older is $7; tickets must be purchased at the gate. Children ages 5 and younger and active and retired military personnel and their dependents with proper identification will be admitted free.

The “Rocket” is a Jupiter intermediate range ballistic missile that was built by Chrysler. Its name is Columbia, and it was given to the city in the early 1060s by the U.S. Air Force. The Rocket was erected at the State Fairgrounds in 1969 for $10,000.
Youth entrance policy
Fair visitors 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 21 years old or older to be admitted to the fair after 5 p.m. each day.
In the Grandstand
This year’s musical lineup includes three free concerts – Corey Smith, The Temptations and Kirk Franklin. The remaining acts include The Band Perry, Foreigner, Hunter Hayes, Needtobreathe, and Justin Moore. Tickets range from $15 to $30 and include gate admission if purchased online.
