Two things are troubling me. First, back in the ’60s when I got my draft notice, I didn’t burn my draft card or run to Canada. I served my country – the U.S. This past week, the World War II vets went to Washington to see their blood, sweat and tears memorial only to have it barricaded. A memorial that until Oct. 1 was wide open and unmanned. Shame on Washington! How many of the politicians in Washington are vets?
Second, I always thought people in Washington were educated – high school, college, master’s degrees and so on. As the old saying goes: “They are so smart – they are stupid.” But then I’m thinking they go to Washington every day (when they aren’t on vacation) and have a free lunch, coffee and donuts and who knows what happens during happy hour. They take our hard-earned dollars and line their pockets, and do nothing all day.
Maybe they aren’t stupid! Maybe we are. Remember, when you vote in November or in any election – vote the old out and the new in with only two terms.
