A Chester man in a relationship with a Lake Wylie gas station employee is wanted for stealing scratch-off lottery tickets while visiting his girlfriend at work, deputies say.

The manager of the Kangaroo Express on Charlotte Highway told deputies that he realized $75 worth of tickets were missing, according to a York County sheriff’s report. When he watched the store’s surveillance video, he saw an employee’s boyfriend, 25, walk behind the counter twice and take seven $10 tickets and one $5 ticket.

Video shows the man walk behind the counter after his girlfriend went to the back of the store. About seven minutes later, he walked behind the counter a second time while his girlfriend was mopping the floor, the report states.

Deputies managed to call the man, who told authorities that he was at the Lake Wylie Walmart and would wait in front of the store to meet with deputies. He was not there when deputies arrived.

The boyfriend has been charged with petty larceny. Court records indicate that by Friday morning he had not been arrested.
