CHESTER — The Chester teenager hit by a logging truck on Wednesday while trying to turn off a rural highway has died, according to the Highway Patrol.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jonathan Scott Stowe, 19, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after troopers say he tried turning his 1992 two-door Honda off S.C. 97 and onto Grant Road.
He was hit by York's Ronald Sheppard, driving a 1998 Western Star truck with a logging trailer. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.
Troopers did not report that Sheppard, 62, suffered any injuries.
A Highway Patrol database listing road fatalities in the state indicates that Stowe died at about 3 a.m. Thursday. His obituary at Barron Funeral Home in Chester shows he died at CMC.
