Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Groupie Doll, ridden by Rajiv Maragh, successfully defended her title in Saturday's $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by co-owner Buff Bradley, Groupie Doll came from off the pace in the seven-furlong sprint to post a neck victory over longshot Judy the Beauty. Dance Card was third with Summer Applause fourth in the 12-horse field.
Rounding out the finish were Sweet Lulu, Dance to Bristol, Great Hot, Teddy's Promise, Book Review, Renee's Titan, Ismene and Starship Truffles.
Groupie Doll, last year's 7-10 favorite, went off at 3-1 as she stopped the timer at 1:20.75 just off her winning 2012 time of 1:20.72.
Groupie Doll adds $550,000 to her earnings. The filly has won 11 of 20 career starts for more than $2.4 million. Last year's champion Female Sprinter was making just her fourth start this year.
Groupie Doll paid $8.00, $4.60 and $3.40. Judy the Beauty returned $9.20 and $5.40, and Dance Card paid $4.80 to show.
