As a self-employed 50-something business owner, Ive watched with horror as my insurance premiums have risen over the past 25 years. Although the rollout of the Affordable Care Act has been obstructed by many of the nations governors, like South Carolinas Nikki Haley, it is still the hope that I have long waited for.
Hence my horror to see South Carolina 5th District Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-Indian Land, and manipulative others risk all just to stop it. Appalled, I attended Mulvaneys recent town hall meeting to ask him about his vision for health care for America.
Although Mulvaney has made it clear that he doesn't like the Affordable Care Act, where has his party been on this issue, which has been crippling the American economy for the prior decades?
I listened as Mulvaney explained that he didn't even have health insurance until he was married in his 30s. Is that really the advice we want to give to Americas youth, who are not as invincible as they think?
Additionally, Mulvaney stated that he was considering having his family of five go without insurance rather than sign up for an exchange as his Congressional post requires. The emergency room has to take you, he said laughing.
Wow! Is this the tea party? Wheres all the responsible tea party talk? You take care of yourself; Ill take care of me?
Although the tea party boasts about its commitment to American values, I see no values in any of Mulvaneys actions. Lets make a vow in the next 12 months to find out the real facts about the nations health care crisis and why Mick Mulvaney does not represent you or me.
