Baker from Charlotte’s Bojangles company’s Master Biscuit Maker

Steven Mackey of the Bojangles’ at 300 West Boulevard in Charlotte, N.C. won the 17th annual Master Biscuit Maker Challenge.

Rosalva “Rosa” Avila, who works at the Bojangles on Herlong Avenue in Rock Hill, made her second consecutive appearance in the finals, but did not win.

Mackey, Avila and six other biscuit makers advanced to Tuesday’s finals by winning local and regional competitions. Employees from more than 550 company-owned and franchise-owned locations across the Southeast competed for the Master Biscuit Maker title.

Mackey won $2,500. He is a student at the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Charlotte, Mackey was recently promoted to manager of Bojangles’ Midtown location in Charlotte.

Avila again won a $500 prize for making the finals.

The competition was held Tuesday at the company’s Support Center in Charlotte.
