GREAT FALLS — Just what kind of night was it for Great Falls against the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans in the second round of the Class A playoffs Friday night?
A 27-point second quarter for the Trojans pretty much told the story as they took care of the Red Devils 56-12.
Great Falls intercepted a pass near midfield in the second quarter, and on the next play the Red Devils fumbled the ball. During the play, a referees whistle blew the play dead, and the players came to an abrupt halt. Jared Crute picked up the ball and trotted in the other direction. Crute noticed the play was alive and ran to the 5-yard line before being tackled.
Two plays later Travious Wigfall scored the first of three touchdowns on a 6-yard run. After that, the rout was on with the Trojans cruising.
The outcome of the controversial call was crucial, but it did not alter the outcome, said Great Falls head coach Ken Schofield. They played better, came off the ball better, and executed better than we did.
