— A man caught on video two months ago holding a Rock Hill woman at knife point while forcing her to withdraw money from her bank account was arrested Tuesday after police found him at the same bank soliciting money from strangers, police say.

On Sept. 13, police spoke with a woman, 40, who claimed that Joseph Maurice Dickerson, 32, held a knife to her neck and demanded she use her ATM card and PIN number to give him money at a Cherry Road Bank of America ATM, according to a Rock Hill police report. The woman told police she initially drove Dickerson to the ATM, where he tried using his bank card only to find that his account was $1,000 in the negative.

The woman managed to pull away from Dickerson and ran home, the report states, while Dickerson drove her car north on Cherry Road. Police found the woman’s car at the Executive Inn on Anderson Road. They learned that Dickerson had not checked into the motel, but they did find the knife and Dickerson’s bank card in the car.

A week later, police obtained surveillance video from the bank which confirmed the victim’s account of events, the report states. Police issued warrants against Dickerson, who had not been seen until Tuesday when police got a call that a man was asking people for money, according to a second Rock Hill police report.

Police made contact with Dickerson and looked to see if he had any warrants, the report states. They found warrants charging him with armed robbery and carjacking. Police arrested Dickerson. His bond was denied by a city judge. He will be taken to the York County Detention Center.
