CHESTER COUNTY — A Chester County man died and another was shot after a fight between family members and acquaintances erupted into gunfire Tuesday afternoon, deputies said.
Brian Christopher, 28, of Chester has been arrested in connection with the assault and will face weapons charges, said Maj. Mary Anne Tolbert of the Chester County Sheriff's Office.
The 30-year-old victim's name was not released pending family notification, said Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at about 12:15 p.m.
Deputies were called to Steele Road in Blackstock Tuesday afternoon after receiving reports of an assault between several people, according to a Chester County Sheriff's news release.
When they arrived, they found the victim dead. His brother was still on scene, Tolbert said, and gave deputies the names, addresses and descriptions of the shooter and other suspects involved.
Deputies learned that five people four men and a woman met on Steele Road in Blackstock, where a "domestic-related" dispute began, Tolbert said. Two men arrived in one car, while two men and a woman arrived in another. It wasn't long before shots were fired and two people were suffered gunshot wounds.
"These people all knew each other," she said.
The gunshot victim who survived, whose name and age were not available Tuesday night, took himself to Chester Regional Medical Center for treatment while deputies were at the scene of the crime trying to piece together details of the shooting. Hospital officials called deputies notifying them that a gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital, Tolbert said.
It took deputies less than one hour and 15 minutes to round up all the participants in the dispute and interview them. So far, only Christopher has been charged, Tolbert said.
Authorities are working with Sixth Circuit Solicitor Doug Barfield to determine what other charges might be filed.
By Tuesday evening, no one had been charged with murder.
