December 6, 2013

  • Area Christmas parades

More parades are in the offing over the next two weeks, including four more this weekend:

Fort Mill – Begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Cemetery.

Van Wyck – Begins at noon Saturday near the post office and finishes at the community center.

Hickory Grove – Begins at 3 p.m. Saturday near the old Oxford plant and travels down Wylie Avenue to the VFW building.

Tirzah – Begins at 3 p.m. Sunday on Tirzah Road between S.C. 5 and S.C. 161 in York. Parking available at Tirzah Presbyterian Church.

After that, Dec. 14 looks to be the biggest day for parades, with Fort Lawn’s at 2 p.m., Richburg’s at 11 a.m., Lancaster’s at 6 p.m. and Lake Wylie’s “Lights on the Lake” Holiday Boat Parade at 6:30 p.m.

As always, the unique Lowrys Christmas Parade wraps up the parade season at 1 p.m. Dec. 21.

The Rock Hill and Chester Christmas parades drew big crowds to their downtowns on Friday, setting the tone for the holiday season.

Santa and Mrs. Claus rode in the Rock Hill parade on a float built by York Technical College's building and construction trades students. This was the second year that York Tech students built Santa’s float. The float included “Santa’s Workshop,” complete with candy cane light poles, snow, Christmas lights and an illuminated York Tech logo.
