High school roundup: Great Falls boys top Central Pageland

The Great Falls boys basketball team used a strong defense and a solid transition game and topped Central Pageland 80-65 in non-region action Tuesday.

Jamarcus Culp led the way for coach John Smith’s Red Devils with 29 points. Mardre Dean and Nigel Simpson joined him in double figures with 17 and 11 respectively.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 on the season with a win over the River Bluff Gators in non-region action Tuesday.

Devan Thacker, Mike Scurlock and Tanner Mitchell each scored 11 points to lead the way for coach Dwayne Hartsoe’s team.

Fort Mill trailed 11-7 after one quarter, but moved in front 24-20 at halftime and outscored River Bluff by two points in the second half to register the win.

Marvin Ridge jumped to a 34-21 halftime lead and defeated the Nation Ford Falcons 80-56 Tuesday in a non-region contest.

John Emezie led Marvin Ridge with 30 points. Ben Williams was also in double figures with a dozen points. Nation Ford was led by Mike Campbell with 18 points.

The Fairfield Central Griffins took a 35-21 lead at intermission and went on to defeat the Chester Cyclones in non-region play.

Wrestling

• The South Pointe Stallions won all three matches in a quad competition at Boiling Springs on Tuesday.

The Stallions defeated Broome 60-12 in the first match of the night and followed it with a 45-26 victory over Boiling Springs. The Stallions claimed their third win of the night with a forfeit decision over Berea. South Pointe improved to 4-1 on the season.
