An escort who met with a client at a Rock Hill hotel wound up in jail after police discovered that she hid marijuana in her purse and cocaine inside a Bible on Tuesday, authorities say.
At about 8:05 a.m., police were called to the Howard Johnson Inn on Riverview Road after Krissy Lynn Hawkins, 24, called complaining that her money was stolen and she was being harassed, according to a Rock Hill Police report. Hawkins told police that she posted an ad on backpage.com, a free online classified ad service, under the “escorts” page. A 23-year-old Rock Hill man responded, and they met in her room.
Once inside the room, the man began fondling Hawkins, she told police. When she asked for her “donation” up front, the man grabbed her wallet, took $260 and ran out of the room, leaving his own wallet behind. He later returned, beating on the door so he could get his wallet back.
Police spoke with the man, who admitted that he took Hawkins’ money, the report states. He handed the officer $180 cash. It’s unclear what happened to the rest of the money, and Hawkins opted not to press charges.
Officers asked Hawkins if there were illegal drugs in the room after they smelled marijuana, the report states. She told them there were, that she had pot in her purse and possibly some cocaine in a dollar bill. Police found a baggie of marijuana in her pocket book, as well as the cocaine.
They also found cocaine hidden inside the Bible in the nightstand drawer, the report states. A plastic cigarillo zip lock packet was inside a Cracker Barrel paper bag sitting on the floor, along with several marijuana roaches. Police arrested Hawkins, charging her with prostitution, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.
During a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon, Hawkins told Rock Hill Municipal Judge Tanesha Lonergan that she has not been employed since September, when she worked at a Burger King in Ohio. She also said she does not have a permanent home.
“I stay in hotels,” she said.
Lonergan set a $470 bond on Hawkins for the prostitution charge and a $5,000 bond for the possession of cocaine charge.
