Area grapplers well-represented in state rankings

Herald-area high school wrestlers litter SCMat.com’s first updated state rankings, released Wednesday.

Three locals – Fort Mill’s Eddie Byrams, South Pointe’s Mike Miller and Rock Hill’s Cam Bell – are ranked No. 1 in the state in their respective weight classes. A host of others are listed in the top-8 by SCMat, the state’s online high school wrestling authority.

Note too that Chester has a pair of grapplers ranked in the Class AAA rankings. Defending 160-pound state champ Meleke Stewart earned notice in that same class, and junior Temaris Dixon is ranked sixth in the heavyweight class.


Rock Hill’s Devon Faile is ranked second in this class.


Rock Hill sophomore Logan Sexton, a state qualifier last year as a freshman, is ranked fifth in the state in this class.


Fort Mill senior Eddie Byrams tops the 120-pound weight class statewide. He’s finished fourth (106 in Class AAA) and third (113) in the state the last two years.


Rock Hill sophomore Noah Mead is ranked third in this class; Nation Ford senior Collin Godbout is sixth.


South Pointe senior Mike Miller is ranked No. 1 at 132 pounds after finishing second at the 2013 state tournament in the same class. INFO. Fort Mill’s Tyler Turner, who finished second in the state last year at 120, is ranked third and York’s Cole Rumfelt is sixth.


Michael Allen, from Nation Ford, checks in at No. 3 in the 138-pound class.


Fort Mill senior Nigel Bostick is ranked seventh and Rock Hill junior Babe Rigby is ranked eighth.


Nation Ford’s Houston Vandiver is the only local wrestler ranked in the 152-pound class; the senior checks in at sixth.


Rock Hill’s Kris Hughes, a state qualifier last spring, is ranked No. 3.


Cody Childers, a Rock Hill senior, is ranked seventh.


Rock Hill’s Ben Demarest is ranked seventh.


Fort Mill senior B.J. Hurst is ranked second, York senior Chance Kelley is ranked fifth and South Pointe sophomore Zach Morgan is ranked seventh.


Rock Hill’s Cam Bell is ranked No. 1 at 220 pounds, after finishing third in the state in the same weight class last season. South Pointe senior Corey Morgan is fourth, and Clover junior Zach Conrad is fifth.


Rock Hill’s Travis Strait is ranked second, and South Pointe’s Nick Adams is ranked eighth.
