Demetrius Cousar

— The Rock Hill man who answered an escort’s sexual advertisement last week, met with her a hotel and then stole her money was charged with engaging in prostitution on Friday, police say.

Last Tuesday, Krissa Lynn Hawkins, 24, called police to her room at the Howard Johnson Inn on Riverview Road after claiming that a man had been harassing her, according to a Rock Hill police report. When police arrived, she told them that Demetrius Tyrone Cousar, 23, answered an ad she placed on backpage.com, a free online classified ads service. Once inside the room, Cousar began touching her.

When she asked for her “donation,” Cousar grabbed her wallet, took out $260 and ran out the room, the report states. He returned some minutes later after realizing that he left his own wallet behind. He started beating on the door so Hawkins would let him back inside.

Cousar told police that he did take the money, but returned it to Hawkins, who declined to press charges for petty larceny. Police arrested Hawkins after finding the room littered with several drugs, including cocaine she allegedly hid in a Bible. Police issued a warrant for Cousar, who turned himself in to authorities on Friday. He was released on a $470 personal recognizance bond.
