Les Conner, former Tega Cay councilman, dies

— Former Tega Cay City Councilman Les Conner died at his home Saturday after a short battle with cancer. He was 67.

Conner, a native of North Carolina, served on the City Council from 2005 to 2010. He was mayor pro tempore from 2006 to 2007.

He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and had retired to Tega Cay after 34 years with the Hoechst-Celanese chemical company.

Conner also had served on the boards of the Tega Cay Area Chamber of Commerce, the Catawba Regional Council of Governments and York County’s Culture and Heritage Museums.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, followed by a memorial service. A “celebration of life” will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Philip T. Glennon Community Center in Tega Cay.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Cancer Research Institute.
