— York County sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting incident that involved a 45-year-old man.

The man was treated at Carolinas Medical Center-Steele Creek around 4:30 p.m. Saturday for gunshot wounds to both of his legs.

According to the sheriff's office, the man told hospital staff he had been hunting with a 10-gauge double-barrel shotgun and accidentally shot himself while cleaning the gun.

Hospital staff told police the wounds were not consistent with the man’s story. Sheriff’s detectives are still investigating.
