Rock Hill power outage affected 2,500 customers

— Residents in Rock Hill reported a power outage in the southern end of the city limits on the morning of New Year’s Day.

According to Rock Hill’s live power map, the outage stretched south of West Main Street starting at Johnson Street down to Rawsville Road and included over 2,500 customer meters.

The utility received more than 100 calls related to the outage. Crews responding to the outage found a fallen tree on a main electric line and worked to cut the tree and restore power shortly afterward.

The outage lasted for about an hour, according to Rock Hill electric operations manager Mike Jolly. Jolly said the outage was a built-in precaution to prevent the electric line from burning out when the tree fell on a circuit.

Power was restored sometime around 11:15 a.m., Jolly said.
