Catch Beatlemania Friday at The Visulite Theater

January 2, 2014

Abbey Road Live! brings Beatlemania to The Visulite Theater in Charlotte Friday.

ABBEY ROAD LIVE!

Nudge the new year into high gear with a blast of Beatlemania from Abbey Road Live! Friday at The Visulite Theatre in Charlotte. It’s been a few decades since The Beatles blew up the music world in the mid 1960s, so we’ve all had plenty of time to swear ardent allegiance to the Fab Four. So, covering the music of The Beatles live is an act of daring, not to be undertaken by the faint of heart nor the untalented.

Enter the band Abbey Road Live!, who undertake the task willingly and with unique dedication. What began as a tribute to the 11th Beatles’ album by four lads from Athens Ga. – Tim Conley, guitar/vocals; Dave Domizi, bass/vocals; Andrew Hanmer, drums/vocals and Michael Wegner, keyboards/guitar/clarinet/vocals – eventually widened to include clever covers of more than 100 Beatles’ tunes including album presentations of “Magical Mystery Tour,” “Rubber Soul,” “Revolver,” and “Sgt. Pepper.”

While renderings of the originals are dedicated and authentic do not expect Abbey Road to be a “mop top” reenactment group.

Remember that The Beatles live/touring days ended in 1966 and they never performed much of their most iconic music live. Undertaking such a task requires talent, skills, as well as ingenuity. Or, in Wegner’s words: “Sometimes we have to ‘interpret’ the music, to make it work live. This band (ARL) is less about recreating every last audio nuance as we are about bringing the music to life.”

Still the look and feel as well as the “cheeky” spirit of the famed Liverpudlians lives on before crowds of all ages happily singing along thanks to ARL. But mostly it is an opportunity to be captivated once more by the powerful music of Paul, Ringo, George and John.

“A splendid time is guaranteed for all” with Abbey Road Live! at The Visulite Theatre, 1615 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte. Call 704-358-9200 for more details or check visulite.com. For more information on the music, go to abbeyroadlive.com.
