Security footage released in Rock Hill jewelry heist

— Three hooded, gloved burglars broke into a Rock Hill jewelry store early Friday, hopping over counters and using crowbars to smash open display cases as they stuffed an unknown amount of bracelets, necklaces and rings into a bag, police said.

By Friday evening, police still had not made any arrests, though authorities did release surveillance video showing the suspects, armed with crowbars and sporting black hoodies and gloves, run throughout the store to collect the merchandise, some of which they left scattered on the floor.

At about 4:30 a.m., police were called to Brownlee Jewelers on Canterbury Glen Lane, off Dave Lyle Boulevard near McAlister's, after receiving notification from a burglary alarm, said Executive Officer Mark Bollinger of the Rock Hill Police Department.

When police arrived, they found that suspects tried to pry open the back door, but they were unsuccessful, Bollinger said. The suspects managed to break in through the front door and swipe an unknown amount of jewelry. A complete inventory of the store to determine how much is missing will likely not be available until Monday.

The store’s security footage shows one of the suspects direct his cohorts on where to grab the merchandise. They hop over counters and go through drawers behind the cash register. All three burglars wear black hoodies, but one of the suspects’ hoodie has a white image with white writing on the front.

Anyone with information about the burglary or suspects is asked to call the Rock Hill Police Department at 803-329-7200, or submit an anonymous tip on York County Crimestoppers at 1-877-409-4321.
