Rock Hill Bearcats ranked No. 1 in AAAA wrestling

Local area wrestling teams are well represented in the latest team and individual rankings by scmat.com. Six teams are ranked in the top 20 and nearly 30 individuals are rated in the top eight.

The Rock Hill Bearcats are the only area team ranked number one. The Bearcats sit atop the Class AAAA poll. Four other Region 3-AAAA teams are in the top 20. The South Pointe Stallions are rated number seven, while the York Cougars sit at number 11. The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets are ranked thirteenth, and the Nation Ford Falcons are number 16.

In the Class AA-A poll, the Indian Land Warriors are currently rated as the ninth best team.

Twenty-nine area wrestlers are rated in the top eight in the individual weight classes.

Indian Land has two wrestlers rated as number one in their respective weight class, while South Pointe, Fort Mill, Clover, and Chester each have one rated as the best in their classification.

Rock Hill has the most individual wrestlers ranked in the individual classes. The Bearcats have nine in that group. Fort Mill has six, while Indian Land has four and Nation Ford has three. South Pointe, York, and Chester have two each, and Clover has one.

106 Devon Faile of Rock Hill is number two, while John Brotemarkle of Fort Mill is number eight.

113 A. J. Leitten of Fort Mill is ranked number two and Logan Sexton of Rock Hill is number six.

120 Senior Eddie Byrams of Fort Mill is ranked as the top wrestler in the state in Class AAAA, while Nick Steinberg of Rock Hill is fifth. Indian Land sophomore Dalen Byerley is number one in Class AA-A.

126 Noah Mead of Rock Hill is ranked in the third spot and Fort Mill’s Jake Strong is rated number five. Collin Godbout of Nation is ranked number six.

132 Senior Mike Miller of South Pointe is the top wrestler in the Palmetto State in that category in Class AAAA. Indian Land’s Taylor Pendelton is third in Class AA-A.

138 Cole Rumfelt of York is ranked number six and Nation Ford’s Michael Allen is number eight.

145 Nigel Bostick of Fort Mill is ranked sixth in the state.

152 Senior Devin Curtsinger of Indian Land is ranked first in the Class AA-A group. In Class AAAA Kris Hughes of Rock Hill is fourth in the classification, and Nation Ford’s Houston Vandiver is the sixth spot.

160 Cody Childers of Rock Hill is the second best wrestler in Class AAAA. Chester’s Meleke Stewart is ranked second in Class AAA.

170 There are no area wrestlers ranked in the top eight in the state in this weight classification.

182 Eric Komorous of Indian Land is ranked number five in Class AA-A.

195 B. J. Hurst of Fort Mill is ranked as number two, while Chance Kelly of York is in the number six position.

220 Clover’s Zach Conrad, a junior, is the number one wrestler in this classification. Cameron Bell of Rock Hill is second, while Corey Morgan of South Pointe and Rock Hill’s Josh English are fourth and eighth respectively. Temaris Dixon, a junior from Chester, is ranked as the top wrestler in the Class AAA ranks.

285 Travis Strait of Rock Hill is rated third in the state in this class.
