High school roundup: Union County girls top Chester

Mauri Eison scored 26 points and led the Union County girls to a 66-59 basketball win over the Chester Cyclones in Region 3-AAA action at Chester.

Chester led 31-28 at halftime, but Union used a pressure defense to create turnovers, take the lead, and move on for the win.

Union County had four players in double figures, led by Mauri Eison with 26 points. Chester was led by Deja Marshall with 15 points. Sta’Keria Sanders added 11, while Diamond Simpson tossed in 11.

Both teams are 2-1 in region play and tied for second.

Boys Basketball

Great Falls 58, Lamar 46: The Red Devils placed three players in double figures and defeated the Silver Foxes in a Region 3-A contest at Lamar.

Nigel Simpson led the way with 16 points. Mardre Dean added 15, while David Jeter scored 14.

Chester McCullough led Lamar with 18 points.

The Red Devils used a good transition game to break on top early and even its region record at 1-1 with the victory.

York 66, Clover 54: Daurice Simpson scored 28 points and led the Cougars to a victory over the Blue Eagles in Region 3-AAAA play at Clover.

The Cougars broke open a close game in the final period by outscoring Clover 21-13.

Aaron Milner and Alex Thompson led Clover with 10 points each.

The top-ranked Bearcats defeated the Stallions in Region 3-AAAA action at Rock Hill.

Six of the Bearcat wins were by pins, while South Pointe recorded only one pin.
