— Three people were killed in a horrific head-on collision on I-77 early Thursday morning when a car going the wrong way smashed into another, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 2:35 a.m. Thursday about five miles east of Winnsboro, the patrol reported.

A 2004 Mitsubishi driven by Takeya Taylor, 28, of Columbia was traveling north in the southbound lane and crashed head-on into another vehicle. That vehicle, a 2012 Hyundai, was driven by 48-year-old Lisa Jefferson of Charleston. Jefferson was traveling south in the proper lane with two passengers.

Taylor and Jefferson were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Wallace Green Jr., 46, was a passenger in Jefferson’s vehicle and later died at Palmetto Health Richland.

All three victims were identified by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.

Another passenger, Edward Singleton, 51, of Charleston, survived the crash and was taken to Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia. His condition was unknown.
