High school roundup: Sanders’ 18 pace Chester girls

The Chester girls raced to an 11-point halftime lead and went on to register a 51-39 basketball victory over the Woodruff Wolverines in Region 3-AAA play at Chester on Friday.

T’Erica Sanders led the Chester attack with 18 points. Deja Marshall added 14, including a pair of three-point goals.

Nation Ford 55, York 41: The Nation Ford girls used a strong second quarter to take the lead and defeat the York Cougars in Region 3-AAAA action at York.

Nation Ford trailed 12-10 after one period, but outscored York 26-9 in the second period to take a 36-21 lead at halftime.

Alixis Roccia led the Falcons with 17 points. Brooklyn Bailey added 16 to the winning cause.

Fort Mill 49, Rock Hill 46: Ally Abbott hit a 3-pointer to lift the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets to a win over the Bearcats in a Region 3-AAAA matchup at Rock Hill.

The Bearcats led 27-15 at halftime, but Fort Mill rallied to regain the lead at 33-30 after three quarters. Rock Hill battled back to tie the game before Abbott hit the game-winning shot.

South Pointe 55, Clover 43: The Stallions toppled the Clover girls in a Region 3-AAAA game at Clover.

Boys Basketball

Chester 75, Woodruff 67: The Chester boys placed three players in double figures and claimed a victory over the Wolverines in Region 3-AAA play at Chester.

Tommy Sanders led the Cyclones with 24 points. He was joined in double figures by John Gore with 19 and Shyheim Wilson with 18.

Woodruff led 23-18 after one period, but the Cyclones rebounded to pull to within one at halftime. The Cyclones took the lead early in the third period and went on from there to improve their region record to 4-1.

Rock Hill 65, Fort Mill 49: The Bearcats raced to a 19-6 first-quarter lead and never let up as they defeated the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 65-49 in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Rock Hill.

Nation Ford 57, York 51: The Falcons broke a halftime tie and picked up a victory over the York Cougars in a Region 3-AAA game at York.

The win improved Nation Ford to 4-4 in region play.

South Pointe 56, Clover 44: The South Pointe Stallions raced to a 21-8 first quarter lead and defeated the Clover Blue Eagles 56-44 in Region 3-AAAA action at Clover.
