Preparations for the 2014 Winthrop baseball season get underway on Friday, Jan. 24, when head coach Tom Riginos welcomes 35 players to practice at The Winthrop Ballpark. The Eagles home opener against Akron on Feb. 14 is only three weeks away. The first practice is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Riginos, who is beginning his fourth season at the Winthrop helm, is expecting a much-improved offensive attack for the 56-game season as he returns the top five hitters as well as seven pitchers from a year ago. The Eagles have added 14 newcomers to the 2014 squad, including eight pitchers. “Depth will be a major asset this season,” he believes.
