Snowy forecast prompts Rock Hill schools to cancel athletic events

Rock Hill schools are releasing students at 1 p.m. Tuesday and all district athletic events have been canceled.

Chester games postponed

Chester High School has postponed its Tuesday night athletic activities until later in the week. The Cyclone boys and girls’ basketball teams were scheduled to host Clinton, but those games will be pushed back to Wednesday, though even that date is tentative. And the Chester wrestling team will travel to Broome on Thursday, as long as roads and weather are clear.

Buford game postponed

The varsity basketball game Buford at Indian Land originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6 pm has been postponed due to snow and early dismissal in Lancaster County. A reschedule date & time will be announced as soon as possible.

S.C. basketball polls out

Indian Land High School boys’ basketball is up to No. 3 in the state in the latest South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Class AA rankings. Nate Smith’s Warriors are 11-2 and 4-0 in Region 4-AA.

South Pointe’s boys also continued to creep up the ladder in the Class AAAA poll. Melvin Watson’s team is 14-4 and 8-0 in Region 3-AAAA, and in this week’s poll, ranked fourth in the state.

Great Falls is the final area boys’ squad ranked in the state. The Red Devils, 13-4 and 3-1 in Region 3-A, check in at No. 8 in Class A.

Ronnie Robinson’s Lancaster girls are the highest-ranked girls team in the area, at No. 7 this week in Class AAAA.

The Bruins are also undefeated in Region 3-AAAA through eight games, and are 11-4 overall.

And there was a debut for Stephanie Butler’s South Pointe (10-4, 6-2) squad, which peeked its head in the poll this week at No. 10 in Class AAAA.
