ORANGEBURG COUNTY — An Orangeburg County woman, hoping to hide her narcotics use from her boyfriend, lied about an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault earlier this month, law enforcement officers announced Friday.
Bonnie Jean Avery, 47, has been charged with filing a false police report, a felony, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
Avery originally reported that she was kidnapped and assaulted on Highway 400 in Neeses on Jan. 17. She told deputies that she ran out of gas and was approached by two men in a pickup. They forced her into the truck, drove the truck around and sexually assaulted her. She said she was able to get away from them, hiding in the trees until they left. At that point, she flagged down another driver who took her home.
When deputies began investigating her story, however, she admitted that she made up the story, Ravenell said, because she didnt want her boyfriend to know that she had been abusing narcotics.
Bond was set by Judge Derrick Dash at $2,500 cash or surety.
