— An armed robbery at a Walgreens just a block from campus prompted Winthrop University officials to issue a warning to students on Sunday morning.

According to Rock Hill Police, a man dressed in a hoodie robbed the store at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday by handing a note to a pharmacist demanding controlled substances. The 24-hour drugstore is located a block from the school's campus at Cherry Road and Oakland Avenue.

The man indicated he had a firearm, but no gun was seen by the pharmacist, according to Executive Officer Mark Bollinger. The suspect made off with an undetermined amount of prescription drugs.

The suspect was seen fleeing on foot from the store north on Cherry Road, also just a block away from campus. The man was described as a 6'2" tall white male in a black and white checkered hoodie, about 20-30 years of age and around 175 pounds.

The department's K9 unit was able to track the suspect's path to the corner of Charlotte Avenue but could not locate him. Investigators will be looking into the case.
