Fatal wreck closes portion of Celanese Road in Rock Hill, one woman charged

— Troopers are investigating a fatal crash on a busy stretch of Celanese Road in Rock Hill after officials reported a three-car accident Monday afternoon.

York County Coroner Sabrina Gast confirmed one fatality as a result of the crash, but has not yet released the identity of the driver. The victim was driving a Kia Rio and was seatblelted at the time of the collision, according to Highway Patrol.

He or she was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where they died of injuries from the crash.

Cassie Cunningham, 36, Rock Hill, has been charged with driving under the influence after she reportedly rear-ended the victim with her GMC Yukon. According to Highway Patrol, the victim had stopped at a red light going east on the road.

Cunningham has been booked at Moss Justice Center and was not injured in the collision.

A third vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was also involved in the crash, but the Fort Mill driver was also unharmed.

Rock Hill police closed down a portion of Celanese Road from India Hook to Mt. Gallant Roads late Monday afternoon.

By 5 p.m., police had reopened a section of Celanese Road from India Hook toward Interstate 77, but advised motorists to avoid the area as traffic in the area was still heavy.
