ROCK HILL — At least one person has been taken to a Charlotte hospital after being involved in a two-car crash with injuries on Celanese Road in Rock Hill Friday morning.
At about 8:10 a.m., troopers were called to the area between Celanese and Twin Lakes roads after the driver of a Ford Mustang travelling westbound on S.C. 161 crossed the center line of the road, colliding with the driver of a Chevrolet sports utility vehicle headed east, said Lance Cpl. Billy Elder with the Highway Patrol.
One of the drivers has been flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The driver's name, gender and extent of their injuries were not immediately available.
"It is a very serious crash," Elder said.
Police reported that the crash possibly involved entrapment. Some parts of the road, police said, are still icy.
The Highway Patrol has notified the state Department of Transportation about the road's icy conditions, but Elder said all of the factors contributing to the crash are not yet known.
He did say that the driver of the Mustang did lose control of the car.
State troopers have asked motorists to stay off the roads if possible because of the potential to slip on patches of black ice.
On Monday, Rock Hill's Kristen Knight died when Cassie Cunningham, 36, rear-ended her Kia Rio while they were waiting at a stoplight headed east on Celanese Road. Knight, 22, was knocked into ongoing traffic, hitting a Toyota Camry.
She was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
