Grant Enfinger wins ARCA opener amid team brawl

— Grant Enfinger won the Automobile Racing Club of America series season opener at Daytona.

A winner in the feud between the teams of drivers Chase Elliott and Buster Graham remains to be called.

Enfinger held off ARCA veteran Frank Kimmel to win Saturday’s Lucas Oil 200 at Daytona International Speedway, his third series victory and first at Daytona.

“I was content running second for a while, then after we had a restart I was able to get a run and cleared (Dylan Kwasniewski). At that point, I knew we had something that could win the race,” Graham said.

“Now, there are so many variables and anything can happen, but the track position was in our court the whole time. We were able to pass the leaders and there was side-by-side racing. I think ARCA has done a good job with this rules package.”

Enfinger’s victory was overshadowed by two different confrontations between the teams of Elliott and Graham.

Graham claimed Elliott spun him to trigger a 15-car wreck early in the race. Immediately after the incident, members of Graham’s team got into a physical altercation with Elliott’s team on pit road.

“He did the same thing at Road America to Ty Dillon,” Graham said, referring to an incident that took place last June in the ARCA series. “I guess his brakes went out again.”

After the race, members of both teams had to be separated by police in the ARCA garage area.

Clay Campbell, the president of Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, finished third, Tom Hessert was fourth and Tyler Reddick was fifth.
