Thieves leave trail of cigars after break-in at Rock Hill store

The HeraldFebruary 24, 2014

— Burglars left a trail of cigars after smashing through the door of a Rock Hill grocery store and stealing beer and smokes, police say.

At about 2:45 a.m. Monday a bicyclist noticed two men hiding in the bushes near Plair Grocery on Simrill Street. They ran off toward Carroll Park, and the man called police, according to a Rock Hill Police report.

An officer noticed cigars in the middle of the road as he headed toward the store. He also found cigars in the grass.

Police discovered someone had forced the shop's door open, causing $200 in damage. Among the stolen items were two Bud Light beers, two Bud Light Straw-ber-Rita beers, four Milwaukee's Best Ice beers and an unknown amount of cigars.

Forensics and a K-9 unit responded, but the police dog was unable to track the suspects.
