— A Clover man wanted in the sexual assault of a woman at a York apartment complex nearly two months ago was arrested Tuesday when an officer spotted him at Bi-Lo, police say.

On Jan. 30, police were sent to Carolinas Medical Center in Steele Creek after hospital staff examined a woman, 23, who reported that she had been sexually assaulted while in York, according to a York police report. Detectives and a victim’s advocate spoke with the woman, who told police she went to an apartment on Pecan Circle with an acquaintance.

Soon after arriving, her acquaintance left the apartment, telling the woman he would be right back even as the woman tried convincing him to stay, the report states. The woman went to use the bathroom. A man who she did not know, later identified as Michael Tyrone Curry, 47, walked into the restroom and asked her to perform sexual acts on him. She refused. The man then forced her into sex.

The woman was able to give police a description of Curry, the report states. Police learned that Curry had been living at the apartment complex for the past several weeks, but also discovered that he was placed on trespass from the property by the York Housing Authority back in July. Police showed the victim a photo lineup of suspects that included Curry. She identified him as the man who assaulted her.

Police issued warrants on Curry, but did not find him until Tuesday when an officer on an unrelated call at the East Liberty Street Bi-Lo in York recognized him, police documents show. Curry was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Wednesday morning, he was being held at the York County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing on the criminal sexual conduct charge.
