Activities surrounding Winthrop University President Jamie Comstocks inauguration later this month will include multiple Eagles athletic events, an arts crawl, a childrens book drive and the colleges annual hosting of Model United Nations.
Many of the events, scheduled for March 24-29, will celebrate women in leadership.
Comstock chosen a year ago to serve as the universitys 10th president is the only female president of a public university in South Carolina and Winthrops second female president.
A full schedule of events is available at winthrop.edu/inauguration.
More than 20 activities have been scheduled. Signature events include Comstocks March 28 investiture ceremony and a black-tie gala on March 29.
The university also might announce donation totals for a recently established Dare to Rise fund-raising campaign to support academic resources for students and need-based scholarships.
This week, Winthrop announced that Comporium of Rock Hill will be the presenting sponsor for the inauguration.
The roots of both of our organizations run deep in this progressive community, Comstock said, and our futures are intertwined in initiatives that will significantly impact the quality of work and life in South Carolina and beyond.
The university and Comporium are both active in the city of Rock Hills Knowledge Park development plan. The economic development strategy seeks to re-purpose old textile land and buildings for new uses such as student housing, office and business space and entertainment, retail and eating options.
The former Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Co. site commonly called the Bleachery is near Winthrop and will be Knowledge Parks central feature, once development begins.
