High school roundup: Bearcat baseball edges Union in final inning

The Rock Hill Bearcats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and topped the Union Yellow Jackets in non-region action at Rock Hill.

Zach Carter, who went 2-4 on the day, singled to open the seventh. He scored on Brandon Banks’ third hit of the game and it was tied at 6-6. Cody Elkins’single plated Banks with the winning run.

Union County scored six runs in the first two innings to take a 6-2 lead, but the ‘Cats gradually chipped away before rallying in the seventh for the win.

Will Reid pitched the seventh for the Rock Hill and picked up the win.

SOFTBALL

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets opened the season with a victory over the Chester Cyclones in non-region play at Fort Mill

Taylor Rayborn’s three-run home run was the big hit in the Yellow Jackets’ twelve hit attack. Bella Ray picked up the win for Fort Mill.

TRACK

The Rock Hill Bearcats defeated the York Cougars in a Region 3-AAAA dual meet at York.

The Rock Hill boys won 99-42, while the Rock Hill girls won 74-67.

BOYS’ TENNIS

The Clover Blue Eagles won three of four matches over the weekend at the Florence Tennis Tournament.

The Blue Eagles beat Wilson, Nation Ford, and Charlotte Latin, but lost to Bluffton. The loss to Bluffton came in the opening round. That sent the Blue Eagles to the Back Draw, where they won three times.
