High school roundup: Rodgers goes distance as Rock Hill baseball blanks York

BASEBALL

•  Rock Hill 4, York 0

The Rock Hill Bearcats got a complete-game shutout performance from Isaac Rodgers and beat the York Cougars 4-0 in Region 3-AAAA play at York.

Rodgers struck out eight and scattered five hits in picking up the win.

Rock Hill scored three runs in the third. Will Reid’s single, Brandon Banks’ sacrifice fly and a perfectly executed double steal accounted for the runs for the Bearcats. They added another run in the fourth on a double steal.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets got home runs from Brett Netzer, Avery Carter, and Jackson Massey and defeated the Clover Blue Eagles 11-3 in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Fort Mill.

The Northwestern Trojans pounded out 14 hits and defeated the South Pointe Stallions 11-0 in Region 3-AAAA action at South Pointe.

Kori Wancheck picked up the win with her second career no-hitter. She struck out 10 and walked only one.

Coble Panetti carded a 43 and led the Rock Hill Bearcats to a 179-190 victory over the York Cougars in Region 3-AAAA play at Rock Hill Country Club.

York’s Austin Hall fired a 41 to claim medalist honors.

The Clover Blue Eagles opened the season with a 174-195 victory over the Northwestern Trojans at River Hills Country Club.

Spencer Walker and Austin Walker, both from Clover, were co-medalists with rounds of 42.

Bailey Wooley scored two goals in the final five minutes to lead the Northwestern Trojans past the South Pointe Stallions in a Region 3-AAAA matchup at Northwestern.

Josh Reid gave the Stallions a 1-0 lead early in the second half, and it stayed that way until the final few minutes.

BASKETBALL

South Pointe’s Tyreece Brice, Chester’s John Gore and Lancaster’s Kyia Hough will play in the North-South All-Star basketball games March 22. All three will represent the North half of the state during the games at Lexington High School. The boys’ game begins at 1 p.m., followed by the girls’ game at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for high school-aged students and younger, and will be available the day of the game at the door.

Chester receives Carolina Panthers uniform grant

Chester High School’s football program was one of 16 from across the Carolinas to receive a uniform grant from the Carolina Panthers. Anthony Sterling’s Chester football program will be the beneficiary of actual game-worn and practice-worn uniforms used by the Carolina Panthers, including white and silver gameday pants, and black, blue and white practice jerseys.

The Northwestern Trojans defeated the Blythewood Bengals 4-2 in non-region action.

Kori Wanchek picked up the win. She struck out 14 and scattered seven hits.

Cassie Wanchek led the Trojans at the plate with three hits. Wanchek helped her own cause with a pair of hits and two runs batted in. Rachel Marion added a home run.

The Rock Hill Bearcats defeated the York Cougars 74-67 in a Region 3-AAAA meet at York.
